IceCourt Selected as Official Floor System of USA Roller Hockey, FIRS Championships
by Ron Anderson, USARS Hockey Department

LINCOLN, Neb. --  USA Roller Sports, recognized as the National Governing Body for in-line hockey by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS), announced today that IceCourt is again the official floor system of USA Roller Hockey for the 2001 competitive season. IceCourt floor systems will be utilized at the USARS In-line Hockey National Championships at the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, N.Y., July 11-22.

IceCourt also will be the first in-line hockey floor surface to be used at the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., at both the men’s world team USA final selection camp May 3-6 and the Junior world team USA final selection camp June 18-21.

“We are pleased to continue our outstanding partnership with IceCourt as the official floor system for USA Roller Hockey,” said Brandon Steege, USARS national director of hockey, “For our club level and Junior Olympic teams at nationals, it’s a great addition to the event. Players of all ages will get the opportunity to skate on the same surface that our World team USA competes on for FIRS World Championships.”

IceCourt, a company with its United States operations based out of Isle of Palms, S.C., produces the only flooring system in the world specifically designed for roller hockey and other roller sports disciplines. The unique surface design allows for great maneuverability at high speeds and during tight turns and acceleration, with a positive skate feedback for controlled hockey slide-breaking.

“We (IceCourt) received many enthusiastic responses from the USARS teams competing at last year’s national in-line hockey championships,” said Nicholas Johannes, IceCourt inventor and president. “The competitors had a wonderful experience on the IceCourt surface with its great playability and how the puck glides true and fast. I believe that IceCourt also has a responsibility to help develop in-line roller hockey internationally. We are pleased to have been chosen from many competing surfaces as the official floor of the 2001 FIRS World In-line Roller Hockey Championships June 7-16 in Torrevieja-Alicante, Spain.”

“All of the players invited to the final world team USA selection camps are excited to compete for a spot on the 2001 men’s’ and junior World Team USA skating on the IceCourt surface.” said Ron Anderson, USARS world hockey team program coordinator. “It will be an important component to select the players representing the United States in official international competitions.”
